Getting away

Jason and I haven't had a get away since either of their diagnoses. Time,  money, and being scared to leave the kids alone have kept us at home.  That ends today! We are getting away for a few days, just the 2 of us. We are headed to the state lifeguard games. Jason is the coach of one of the teams competing, and I'm just along for the ride.

Prep for a trip has really changed since type 1 diabetes entered our lives. I have checked and rechecked supplies.  Josh has had a refresher on glucagon, just in case.  Supplies, snacks,  and low treatments have been packed for Jason. We have a small cooler for insulin so it can stay cool on the trip.

I'm a little nervous about being gone, but my boys take great care of each other. Seth self-manages incredibly well, and Josh is excellent back-up for him. We have one neighbor that is type 1, and several that are nurses. So off we go for a few days of fun at the guard games!

PS Today is check-in day for d blogs. I'll be commenting on all the ones I read.

  1. Sounds like a great trip, and very interesting! Yes, prepping for a trip and traveling can be a challenge and it's always an adventure (as it seems to me), but totally something you can master. And you'll do great! Hope it's smooth travels and all goes great on this trip away. Thanks for sharing this.

    1. Thanks! It was a good trip in many ways. It was good for us to get away, and good for Seth to know a) we trust him and b) he can do it!

  3. Sounds like fun!I haven't been on a 'real' trip since diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 9. I am 24 now. There is the occasional visits to grandma and my sister, but for once I would like to go somewhere where my diabetes isn't the main topic around EVERYTHING (like activities, meals, sleep arrangements) People seem to forget I have been doing this for 15 years now - I know what I'm doing.

  10. AWESOME. Sorry I missed commenting yesterday. I make the mistake of opening posts on my phone. Reading them there is fine and dandy. Problem arises when I want to comment. Depending on the spam filter type stuff I can't always comment because my phone wont cooperate. I always meant to get back to posts when on my computer to comment but then the world spins and life gets crazy and blah blah blah.
I am so excited for you and hope you are enjoying your trip - also I clearly need to move to your neighborhood with all that back up care available. Im certain my daughter wouldn't mind. ;)
It is so important to get away and keep your relationship going. Hubby and I neglected us for a long time without having family anywhere close by. One diagnosis can wreck havoc on a relationship- two is double trouble. So glad you are together and having fun. Hope to see some pictures - sounds like a cool event.

    1. I had so much trouble commenting too! We were on the road, so I was approving comments as we went. Once we got to the hotel, I started reading other posts and trying to comment. Then my stupid reader marked all posts as read! I freaked out just a little, then I remembered I had signed up for a half dozen or so readers after Google announced Reader was going away. Whew, crisis somewhat averted!
We had a great trip! It was so good to get away. We have always been passionate about strong marriages, and we've been put through the trials to test it lol. We are stronger now than we have ever been. It takes work, but so worth it!
Absolutely you need to move to my neighborhood! I think the house next door is about to go on the market. Just sayin'.
I'll post some pics on my next post!
